May Goals

With the end of the semester and race weekend, the last month and a half flew by—and I totally forgot about completing and setting monthly goals. So, here’s May goals…even if it is 10 days late.

  • Read 2 books
  • Start working—either at a new job in Pittsburgh or back in MD at City Sports
  • Sign up for a half marathon
  • Start running and training
  • Start blogging more frequently (Sorry I’ve been slacking lately!)

March Goals

  • Run
  • Read 2 non-school related books
  • Focus more on schoolwork and deadlines
  • Commit to work and become more enthusiastic about it
  • Go to a yoga class

I need to spend the rest of the month generally getting my life in order. It’s been in complete disarray—school, work, health, relationships, money—just all of it. I just need to focus on different areas of my life, reevaluate, and straighten things out. I’ve just felt so overwhelmed the last month and I need to take time, get organized, and get back to my old self.

February Goals: 3/5

  • Read 1 non-school related book: Nope, Womp. I am halfway through rereading one of my favorite books though!
  • Find a date for my sorority’s formal: Yes. So, after I told the cutie (browse the personal tag if you don’t know who that is) that I couldn’t do this awkward in-between friends and dating nonsense and almost no communication for a week, he realized his feelings for me. We’re not in a relationship, but we’re actually dating now (before we didn’t actually go out on dates or do anything couple-y in public). I ended up taking him and we had a blast! When we got home, he even made ahi tuna for my roommate, our guests, and myself. Nom nom nom.
  • Take a second little!: Yesss! And she is perfect in every way. Here is her blog, if anyone is interested.
  • Start running again—but take it easy: I’ve run a little bit. Hardly enough to even classifying it as running again. I guess that’s taking it easy, eh? However, the few times I did run, I had no knee pain!
  • Go to a yoga class: Negative.

A little late, but better than never.

February Goals

Even though it’s halfway through:

  • Read 1 non-school related book
  • Find a date for midpledge (my sorority’s formal)
  • Take a second little!
  • Start running again—but take it easy
  • Go to a yoga class

Short and simple. February is halfway over, but I still needed something!

January Goals: 6/11

  • Do anything in my power to come back with a happy and healthy knee (i.e. crutches, physical therapy, or anything my doctor recommends)
  • Start prepping meal plans for the week, so we don’t waste food (especially produce)
  • Cook a full meal at least 3 times a week (either by myself or with Heather)
  • Read 2 non-school related books
  • Apply for 2 scholarships
  • Have fun at AST’s sisterhood retreat and bond with sisters I’m not too close with already
  • Have fun at the Orientation retreat and get to know my fellow chairs
  • Show my aunt around Pittsburgh when she comes to visit me!
  • Have fun with formal recruitment (even though it will be stressful)
  • Start off my internship with the Pittsburgh Marathon on the right foot, complete training, and start learning everything I can
  • Attempt to stop procrastinating and pay attention in class (even the boring, core classes)

It was just a horribly busy month—and it has certainly carried over to this month (evident by the extreme lateness of this post).

2013 Goals

Fitness/Health:
  • Finally run a half marathon
  • Run in a offical 10k race—I’ve run 10k, but never raced one
  • Run 350 miles—I wanted to make this higher, but I don’t know how long recovery from my torn meniscus will take
  • Make more of an effort to plan meals in advance (weekly?)
Academic/Professional:
  • Make an effort to read more for fun; try for 2 non-school related books a month
  • Finish my junior year of college with a 3.9 GPA
  • Successfully contribute to planning and managing the Pittsburgh Marathon
  • Find a paid internship or other paying job for my senior year
  • Start building my professional wardrobe
Personal:
  • Travel abroad (Anywhere! Preferably somewhere I haven’t been yet!)
  • Save more money and stop frivolous spending
  • Plan and run a successful Carnival show for AST and win at least 1 award

I know it’s a lot, but January is going to be a busy, busy month for me. I start my second semester of my junior year, start my internship with the Pittsburgh Marathon, have a sisterhood retreat with AST, have a retreat with the Orientation staff to come up with next year’s freshmen orientation theme, my aunt is coming to visit me for MLK weekend, and we have formal recruitment for AST!

I know most of my goals are not health/fitness related, but I don’t know what to do until I get the okay from my doctor to start running (or any kind of working out) again. Until then, I’ll focus on rehabilitating my knee, eating healthy, and the multitude of commitments I have this month.

December Goals: 4/5

  • Finish out the semester strong with my finals: Three A’s and two A-’s, and still rocking a 3.9 GPA.
  • Go back to work at City Sports and save money: Well, I’m definitely back at City Sports, but I haven’t gotten a paycheck yet, so the saving hasn’t happened. However, I haven’t spent much, except for Christmas presents.
  • Enjoy my 21st birthday!: Done! I went out with some friends that I go to college with, but are originally from the DC area. It wasn’t crazy and wild, but it was a nice evening with good company at a pirate-themed bar (who wouldn’t love that?). I’m sure I’ll have another celebration with more friends when I return to Pittsburgh, but for now, my birthday was perfect! (Even though I did have to work a seven hour shift!)
  • Start eating better (and cooking more!): I think I did pretty well—minus holidays, of course. Once I came home for break, I haven’t been cooking, but I managed to cook two full meals during finals week for my roommate, a mutual friend, and I. Cooking during finals week? Champ status, for sure.
  • Read 3 non-school related books: I have read 1.5 non-school related books, but nothing too wonderful. However, I have started reading Les Mis, so I know that’s going to take forever.
  • Run: Fail fail fail—but not my fault! My knee injury happened on the 5th of December, so I wasn’t given much of a chance. HOWEVER—I’m crossing this goal off completely because I didn’t fail of my own volition, it just wasn’t physically possible for me to accomplish.

November Goals: 4/6

  • Try three new recipes: Done—I tried Roasted Cauliflower and Aged-White Cheddar Soup, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Crab Dip.
  • Cook more of my own food: Eh, definitely didn’t do it as much as I wanted to.
  • Run: Again, not as much as I need to or want to. Cold weather does not agree with me.
  • Focus more on my studies and stop slacking off: This semester has just been rough; I’ve been pretty good at trying to put my studies first—but once a procrastinator, always a procrastinator. However, I think I’ve been a lot better at this this past month, but still need to get better.
  • Read 2 non-school related books: Totally embarrassing, but I started reading 50 Shades of Grey, just to see what the big deal was. I just finished the second one—they’re not really my thing, but good, easy reads that I can space out with.
  • Have fun on the Disney cruise and going to Harry Potter World!: So much fun! I want to go back—I miss the sun and the Bahamas and the pool. Womp, take me back!

October Goals: 5/6

  • Start running again: Fail sauce. I ran more in October than I did in September after the failed half, but not enough to say it was regular. The weather turning horrible cold and rainy didn’t help either.
  • Try three new recipes and blog about them: I made Pumpkin Cream Cheese Pull-Apart Bread, Pumpkin Brownies, and attempted to make a Pumpkin Stew (which ended horribly). I didn’t blog about all of the recipes, but I tried them and that’s the hard part, right?
  • Earn my Presidential Challenge Silver Award: Just barely, but it’s done!
  • Sign up for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon: Done!
  • Have fun with Emily in South Carolina (and doing the Color Me Rad 5k with her!) and take all the pictures!!!: Done! We didn’t take too many pictures, but had so so much fun!
  • Find a date for mid-pledge!: Done! And it’s on Saturday night!

September Goals: 3/6

  • Run regularly: Nope. After the failed half, I decided that I needed a little break from running and training. I have a 5k in October, so at least I know I have that to look forward to.
  • Read two non-school books: I read Misty May’s autobiography, Misty: Digging Deep in Volleyball and Life, and I started to read Forrest Gump, but haven’t finished it yet.
  • Try three new recipes and blog about them: Failsauce. I tried one: the stuffed sweet potatoes. They were delicious. I need to try new things, but I’m a creature of habit. Oops.
  • Have fun at our apartment warming party and catch up with friends: Definetly done. :)
  • Attend one group fitness class at my university’s gym: I always say I’m going to do this and never actually do. Oh well.
  • Keep up with homework and reading for my classes!: Done. I had some trouble earlier in the month because there was an issue with two of my books being shipped out on time.

September Goals

  • Run regularly: I’m not setting a mileage goal this month, because I don’t quite know what my post-half schedule will look like, but I just want to create a regular running schedule around my classes, work, and social events.
  • Read two non-school books: I usually stop reading for fun when I come to school and that needs to not happen anymore.
  • Try three new recipes and blog about them: Hello, Pinterest!
  • Have fun at our apartment warming party and catch up with friends
  • Attend one group fitness class at my university’s gym
  • Keep up with homework and reading for my classes!
